Issue receiving config file on CM1150V

My logs are showing the following error:

Thu Oct 07 02:06:33 2021 Error (4) SW upgrade Failed before download - File not Present
Thu Oct 07 02:06:31 2021 Notice (6) SW Download INIT - Via Config file d11_v_cm1150vims_gigabit_c02.cm
My speeds are only around 300 and I subscribe to gigabit service. Not sure the config file that is already on my modem as I can’t identify where to see that information. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated as I do not know if the problem is on my side or Comcast’s side.

I don't know whether it's the cause of that problem, but the CM1150V is not approved by Comcast for use with Gigabit service. See https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices ("Wired Download Speed: Up to 948 Mbps"). The device should be replaced with one approved for that speed tier, or the speed should be dialed back to one that is in the approved range.

@BruceW it was approved when I bought it, and being a 2 gb modem, I don't understand the 948 mbps shown by Xfinity. The whole reason I bought this modem was to be future proof, and it wasn't cheap.

Thanks for the response Bruce. Would I just ask Comcast to send a config file to the 800 level? I would assume I should be getting speeds faster than 300 regardless.

You'd have to change your Internet subscription from Gigabit to 800 Mbps. I don't think they'll customize the config file for you.

FWIW here. @BruceW  is correct.

It's not that configuration / bootfile that is the problem. That is only one of the methods for them to update the modem's firmware / software load (via the config file). It can also be updated from their backend using the TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) method. The config file shows that it is loaded in. And firmware is not what controls the speeds.

So just for clarity's sake, what I am saying is that it is the software / firmware update that is being rejected because it is "not present". Good luck with it

What firmware version is your 1150v running?

I am on the 500mbps tier, and am getting those same errors ("SW upgrade Failed before download - File not Present").  However...  About a month ago, I got these messages:

Mon Sep 13 23:07:05 2021 Notice (6) SW download Successful - Via Config file
Mon Sep 13 23:06:17 2021 Notice (6) SW Download INIT - Via Config file d11_v_cm1150vims_extremepro_c02.cm

Immediately after that, the 1150v rebooted -- and now has firmware 4.12.04, which is what Netgear says is current for Xfinity push.

My interpretation is that the initial firmware download/update on 9/13 worked just fine.  The 1150v got updated with 4.12.04 as intended.  However, Xfinity has likely misconfigured something that is causing the modem to continue trying to update, over and over, even though it is already updated.

So as long as you have 4.12.04, I think those messages can be ignored -- and they shouldn't have any effect on your speeds, that's a separate issue.
