Is ARRIS TG1682G a supported modem/router, or not?

I was looking at supported modems/routers and ARRIS TG1682G is listed. In fact, it's the modem/router I'm renting from Xfinity right now, but with the Xfinity logo. However, I wonder if I can actually purchase a used one, and use it following two reasons:

 

1. It's not listed here: https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/Approved-Xfinity-Modems-and-Gateways/td-p/3109887

 

2. An ebay listing for an ARRIS TG1682G stated "NOT Approved for XFINITY COMCAST."

 

How can this be? Now I'm afraid to purchase from the list Xfinity indicated are compatible modem/router combos..

Those modems(gateways) are approved but aren’t available to be sold. If you’re looking to buy your own, stick to the list of approved devices.

Also see https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/list-of-approved-cable-modems. Note that the TG1682G is not listed as a retail device on https://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com/. As stated, like most of Comcast's gateways, this is a rental-only device.

Buying modems and gateways on eBay is iffy. It's best to buy them new-in-box from a reputable retailer. Avoid used unless the seller is willing to refund your money if the device doesn't work out, or if you don't care if your time, money, and effort are wasted on a device you can't use.

Thank you. I now understand my confusion. The issue is that the device I'm renting (not retail) is being shown among a list of approved third-party equipment for comparison. Rental devices should clearly state that they are not approved third-party equipment (retail) when displayed in a list of approved third-party equipment.

 

Technically, the ARRIS TG1682G is listed as an approved third-party equipment on my screen. I will accept one of the answers within 2 days to give time for a Comcast employee to recognize why this may be confusing to customers.

If you’ll notice right above the picture it says “Your Device”, that’s why it’s there. It’s there for comparison reasons, not because it’s approved as a third party device.
