IPv6 failing after a few hours w/Netgear Orbi router

Well, this morning I turned IPv6 back on after having it off for around 2 weeks, as I was losing the connection even though all the settings looked fine on the RBR850 web page. I think this is the same issue others have reported, something has broken between Xfinity and Netgear on IPv6 (and neither company seems to be owning up to anything).

I turned IPv6 on at 7:30 today, less than three hours later I checked IPv6 again, and it's failing the IPv6 tests (see picture of one site test). The router web page shows a WAN and LAN IPv6 address, DNS is automatic from ISP,  IP address assignment is Auto Config. Everything else is working great on the network. I am running this test from a laptop direct wired to a switch to the modem (Netgear CM1200). I see the same thing from MacOS and from Windows 11 running in a Parallels VM on the same laptop. I am not running any special security or parental controls add-on packages.

So I guess until or unless something comes down as a fix, I am leaving it off. I hope there is some progress in solving this problem, I have seen it for a couple of months as have others on reddit, netgear forums, etc.

@dawalt Thank you for reaching out to our Digital Care Team. I hate to hear this has been your experience. Are you experiencing an issue with the internet or just showing poor results on the IPv6 testing?

No, IPv6 is not functional until it is reset, the test just shows the issue. Just a guess, there is an issue getting a new IP address when the lease expires - some interaction issue between the netgear router and comcast. This issue has been reported on these forums, reddit, on netgear forums, DSL reports, and probably more, for a couple of months that I am aware of.

@dawalt You can release and renew the IP address by following these steps on an ethernet-connected device. Here are the steps: comca.st/3cZS2BS. When the IPv6 is turned on, can you see the address when you visit https://comca.st/3GEiVdO

I no longer work for Comcast.

... You can release and renew the IP address ...

Release/renew won't do anything useful in the usual case where the system running those commands is downstream from a router or gateway. In fact, it usually won't do anything useful even if the system running those commands is directly connected to a straight cable modem, or to a gateway in bridge mode. They won't hurt anything, but they're not likely to help either.

Yes you are right @BruceW this is about router to comcast, not any device on my network to my router. @XfinityHeather thanks for the reply, I don’t think you have read the problem carefully. Is there any chance you could research this or escalate it since a number of people on different forums have reported this? I Have heard Netgear has contacted Comcast, as this was based on a change Comcast made a little while back. Can you find out anything?

@dawalt Thank you for your feedback. I have read the issue and am aware of what is going on. We are happy to troubleshoot the issue at hand. There are no known issues with IPv6 at this time. Can you see the IPv6 address at the link provided?

@XfinityHeather yes of course the IPv6 links works - until it doesn't. In about 3 days it stops working. This is reported on reddit, netgear, and comcast forums. I don't know how you can say "there are no known issues...".

Thank you for confirming that information, @dawalt. What the issue existent two weeks ago prior to turning off IPv6? Have you gone through a router update recently?
