Ip address information
I am quite upset about my xfinity service and will leave if my problem is not permanently corrected. I have learned that even though I live in New Hampshire my ip address geolocation is in Connecticut. This is causing certain blackouts of some professional sports games THAT I AM PAYING FOR with a sports subscription service that thinks I live in Connecticut. I called xfinity two weeks ago and my ip address was changed to Massachusetts which was okay because my games were not blacked out there. Tonight I see that my ip address is back in Connecticut causing blackouts again. This is very frustrating and at least unethical behavior by xfinity. I expect my ip address to be PERMANENTLY changed back to Massachusetts or New Hampshire or I will discontinue my service.
Thank You

That's not actually an Xfinity issue. It's a 3rd party database issue. Xfinity does not map your IP address to a location, but a lot of other companies do, and that data is used by others for a lot of purposes, some of them nefarious.
When there are network issues or equipment changes, your IP address may change. The location is probably where the old block of IP addresses was. Most of the companies are using google or maxmind for a location database. You have to update that yourself by submitting a request if you want it changed faster, but eventually, they will catch up with you. This thread shows you how to contact them for an update.

You will also have better luck contacting customer support on the service you are paying for. It falls on them up to change their own location database to fix the problem.
Also, on a device/computer, if you are using a VPN or paid anti-virus like Norton or Avast that masks your public IP address with a VPN connection, your location will also appear to be somewhere else. Your traffic exits on their equipment in a server farm somewhere -- could be anywhere. You have to disable that function to unmask your location.

Hello, @user_st. Thank you for alerting us to the IP problem you are running into. I am sorry to hear that you had it fixed and it switched back again. We want to get this resolved and are happy to assist you. These are the instructions to Release and Renew your IP Address. Can you please try these steps and let us know if that resolves the problem and gives you a NH or MA IP or if you are still getting a CT IP address?

FWIW. If one is behind a combo gateway device or a stand-alone router, performing an IP release / renew operation will only serve to release / renew the LAN / private IP address that is assigned to the client by the router's internal DHCP server, not the WAN / public IP address that is assigned to the connection by the Comcast DHCP server.
