Internet won’t let me play online video games

My internet works perfectly fine when getting on calls or surfing the web. My problem is that I can’t play any online video games. Every time I try to, it either a says I’ve lost connection to the games servers or I can’t load into an online game at all. I’ve tried talking to two different Xfinity agents and they have both just told me to get a replacement modem. I’m confident that my modem is not the problem as my modem was working perfectly a few days ago. This all started when I factory reset my router because I forgot my gateways login. Ever since factory resetting it, this problem has been occurring. I’ve tried turning on dmz, port forwarding, restarting my router a few times, and changing some of my routers security settings like turning off its firewall completely and making sure I don’t have any parental controls on and none of that works either. I never even had to rely on those options/settings before factory resetting my router to play online games anyways. I also know that this is a problem with my router and not my desktop specifically because I also can’t play online games on my phone.

Hi, @Mar2077. Thank you for reaching out. Besides the current issue, I hope you are doing well. I see that you've completed various steps already, and I appreicate you being proactive by giving all that a try. I feel you certainly took the right steps. With that said, I see the issue is still present. I'm sure it has been frustrating trying to navigate this on your end. I've never seen a factory reset cause this specific issue, but I understand it only started after the reset was done. Does this happen with every device you own, or is it with a certain console? Does it matter if you are connected wirelessly or hardwired to the Gateway?

@XfinityVianney The problem has been occurring on just about every device connected to my network both wired and wireless unfortunately.

@XfinityVianney I’ve looked more into this type of stuff and thought that maybe it’s actually my isp blocking certain ports because something worth noting, everything works perfectly if I use a vpn.

I appreciate the update @Mar2077 There are specific ports that are blocked for security purposes, and we have them listed online for customers to double check. Is the port you are using on this list: https://comca.st/3bUvcjo ?

@XfinityVianney I don't think any of the ports shown there are any that are used for the games I've tested.

@Mar2077 Okay, thank you for checking on this for us. Can you tell me which online games you are running into this issue with?

Same issue here. can't play games. new gateway and this is awful. has this not been looked into at a larger scale? resetting modem just made the tv not work now. It is one thing after another. also, rep on phone told me if I used app I could get someone to come to house for free but I do not see that option?

@BLCLOVESRMC Some ports might have to be opened for certain games. I posted a link below that walks you through!

(Speaking off apps and whatnot, you will need the Xfinity app for port settings. It's also amazing for managing your home network)
