Internet throttling?
Recently, Ive noticed my download speeds have dropped from 300Mbps to about 27Mbps. On my desktop, as well as my roommates desktop. I need to download large iso files for school frequently, and its taking hours to do so because of this. Speedtest.net of course shows 300Mbps, but if I use a more reputable internet speed test such as speed.cloudflare.com or speed.measurementlab.net I get 30ish Mbps. Game downloads are 300Mbps however, but any other file downloads are very very slow.
Even more strange, my phone can download any file at about 300Mbps. So it seems as if wifi devices are prioritised, as well as gaming/streaming services, while everything else is slow. This is extremely frustrating. We are using an xfinity gateway, but I have my own wireless access point that I am connecting to.
Why is this occuring? We pay for unlimited 300Mbps connection, and yet I cant download files faster then about 30Mbps.
EDIT:
I have a friend who lives in the same city, also using xfinity, but is on a different circuit and does not see any of these slowdowns. So it seems it may have something to do with the circuit I am on.

I am also seeing this issue at two locations in South Bend Indiana. I have talked to tech support multiple times and they have not resolved the issue.

Have you rebooted the gateway? Checked your network drivers on the desktop PCs and checked for too much in the way of background processes, well-known data speed limiters like "smartbyte" etc.? Since the phones are downloading at full speed, I'd be looking at the desktops. Also, the broader network is highly variable, and many servers will not allow any user to use more than a certain bandwidth, and/or have highly variable response due to highly variable user loads. Even on my 70Mbps plan, some servers can't keep up.

Honestly i thought the same thing as 3 techs came to my home accept for me it's my upload speed. My down is 930 . However my uploads been at 6.0 to 14 . I had 3 techs come to my home last tech said my modem is getting 40 upload .Yet when I do speed test with xfinity it says 6.6 to 14 upload. I also see a 13 to 15 ms latency on the test too. If my box is getting a 40 upload I can't see where. I haven't been able to work past once a week due to this. It's not my pc nor network adaptor as it is latest drivers and my network adapter has max speed of 2.5 gbs. I am also using a caT 6 ethernet cord so it's not that cat 6 is over kill. I also have my duplex set right too. So something is going on. I would like to think xfinity is not the reason for the downgraded uploads and downloads .
I inquired of the poor upload speeds but got no answer what so ever in the forums. Of course I don't think the grass is greener on the other side. I just wish toi know some possabilities as the tech couldn't answer. He even said it didn't make sense after I shoiwed him speed test .

I'm also doubting this. My roommate and I were on the 200mbps download speed plan for 2 years or so. And when the plan just started, the download speed didn't match the plan(only around 100 mbps), so my roommate called the Xfinity service regarding this issue. Not long after, the speed did come up and match the plan we paid for.
My roommate moved out recently, the plan was under his name, so I need to start a new one with my own name. Nothing else's changed except the name. Everything is still the same, the plan, modem, router, etc. and yet the speed is down to somewhere around 100mbps again. I've contacted xfinity service many times and they just can't help me to get the speed back.
They only kept telling me to restart my modem, which I did several times as they requested, but it didn't help with my problem. And they also sent a technician to my place to check the internet, but the tech said there was no problem at all.(Duh! I know!! I've told them so many times I'm using the same hardware, so there's nothing wrong on my end!) The tech said he doesn't know why the speed can't match the plan, and he needed to check if the area I'm in is having the same kind of issue. But the internet speed was ok only a couple of days ago, how is that possible??
Anyway, I've waited for weeks now because the tech told me to. But the speed is still half it supposed to be. I feel like I'm being scammed for not getting the internet service I paid for.

yes and i also did this and unplugged my modem waited 10 to 20 seconds and that did nothing. But sometimes for upload speed contacting xfinity for a remote reboot will do it. Not sure why that seems a better reboot for modem but for me personally it has always worked unless there is a wire issue. Accept nothing fixes my upload speeds. I would be super happy if I ggot 30 to 35 or even 20 to 27 but 6 to 15 is really bad. Upload speeds also does effect game performance in uploading texture , live broadcasts and so on it's not just downlkoad speed that makes things fast and stead.
If you can't get your down fixd by xfinity's remote restart by customer service they would set up a tech visit though. I had that issue first 2 tech visits it turned out my modem was greyed so that was bad. I always use the website text service because I find it's more pleasant than the ones who work in the office at the albuquerque ,NM. just explain to them you have alread tried unplugging modem to reboot and using app to do so.

LOL. Xfini-steal ROUTINELY throttles your router speed, especially during high demand times. A tech won't help, as they're not slowing down the data coming TO your router (so they can keep advertising high speed networks), instead, they slow your router down, so that you can't actually USE that advertised speed, thus freeing up more bandwidth for other accounts. It's a common practice in the cable industry, and is infuriating as Hell. The only way around it is to switch to an internet only provider who doesn't do this...but people DO like their "bundles". You can try complaining to Xfini-Steal, and this will usually work for a couple days, as they'll stop throttling for a bit to make you happy, but then they start it right back up over time. The other thing to be careful with Xfini-Steal is that they have now placed data limits on their "unlimited" high speed internet. They sent you a notice in the mail, but you probably didn't think much of it, at the time. When you pass this limit, you will be severely throttled for the remainder of the month. These new limits are EASY to surpass, streaming two 4K movies a day will do it.
So, to sum up, they ARE throttling you...not your data, but your Router. All Cable companies do it. To fix it, break up your "bundle", and use a dedicated internet provider that actually has some ethics.
