Internet stops working almost once a day

For the past couple of months or so, my Internet stops working almost every day at different times.  it is very frustrating.  I have to restart my Xfinity modem and then everything works again.

I have a Xfinity modem that I rent and I have my own router (Netgear Nighthawk).  When the Internet stops working, it affects the Wifi, of course but also my desktop which is connect via Ethernet cable (connected to the router).

I assume its the modem because the router is new (only a few months old).  I have not called Xfinity because I don't want to spend 45 mins on the phone when I can restart the modem (and router) and it will work again in 5-10 mins.  However this is very frustrating that the Internet stops working almost every day.  I work from home a couple of days a week and cannot afford to be without Internet.  Any ideas?

Welcome to our community forum, @mkarias1! I have three people working remotely form my home so internet issues are a huge inconvenience for everyone. We'll definitely stick with you here until we get to the bottom of this. If you connect directly to the modem via ethernet, do you notice the same issue or only while connected to the router?

@XfinityEmilyB Hello, I have tried connecting my computer directly to the modem but it does not work at all.  I have no Internet connection which is very strange.  The Internet is working fine via the router right now.  I tried connecting two different ethernet cables from my computer to the modem.  I have no Internet connection.  When I connect to the router via the cable, I get Internet.  For some reason, my modem is only allowing Internet access via the cable connected to the router.  Any ideas?
