Internet Speed

Greetings - I am currently on the Gigabit X2 plan and am supposed to be getting 2100 down and 300 up.

Speed tests show that I am only getting on average 925 down. Up speed averages about 350 and is fine, no problems there.

Would like to get closer to the down speed that I am paying for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you wireless or hard wired? If hard wired i believe you have to be plugged into the red jack on the back of the xb8 modem.

From the street to the house to the Xfinity CGM4981COM it is connected via coax. From the Xfinity equipment to my Synology RT2600ac it is connected via CAT6.

Confirming that the CAT6 cable needs to be connected to the red port on the back of the CGM4981COM?

... Gigabit X2 plan ... getting on average 925 down ...

What modem or gateway are you using, and are you connecting with Wifi or Ethernet? Are you using a standalone router?

If any of the devices in the chain are only capable of 1 Gbps you'll only see 940 Mbps or so due to protocol overhead.

@ColinWD

The 2600 is the weak link in the chain. It has only gigabit Ethernet ports. Do you have the Xfinity gateway device in bridge mode ? If you are going to hang a third party standalone router off of it, it needs to be in bridge mode.

EG - Thank you for your response and information. Based on the information you provided, I did some research and found a way to reposition the router so that the wireless provided the coverage and the PC now has the 2Gbps. Speeds are amazing!

Aceq2jot - I was wondering what the red marked port was for. With your information I was able to get it set up and everything is running smoothly.

I appreciate your time and assistance. Thank you.
