Internet Speed expectations

Realistically, what should you expect from having the latest Xfi box and 1 gigabeat speeds? What is an acceptable wifi speed within 25 feet? What about with a ethernet connection (cat6) to a good laptop, again 25 feet away?

I don't like being constantly wondering - what am I doing wrong....

I have my Xb7 on my main floor of my townhouse, most of my devices are located there, it will also depend on your devices as some only use 2.4 g band, anyway I get about roughly 900 using a Ethernet cable, I have very old wiring, it was never changed when I upgraded to the gigabit service, my WiFi averages around 450 to 650 , again all on the same floor, using the 5 g band, but it does vary some, over I am very happy with my service, it never disconnects

Thanks for responding!

I get that there are many variables, but my house is only 8 years old. Xfinity changed out cables when I upgraded last summer. I placed my gateway on a table top, new CAT6 directly to my computer 25 feet away and still get 600 on a good day while paying for 1000. I tried other computers and got similar speeds. Wireless is 500-600, again, on a good day.

This may be something I should get used too, but I always tested higher than whatever speed I was paying for prior to this upgrade.

I'm coming back to my older post to add an update. Originally I complained that I was testing 600mbps on a good day after signing up for 1000mbps service.

After troubleshooting, using online chat, to try to fix the issue they determined the issue must be in the house and scheduled a tech visit. The tech visited this weekend and determined the issue is outside the house. Another visit, by a crew handling line issues, will be coming at some undefined time to try to fix things. I was told we won't be notified of that visit. A tad annoying as we don't need our internet being unexpectedly down.

I'll also add that the Xfinity app said we were getting 1100+ speeds to our Gateway, which wasn't true and very misleading. Annoyed.

I do think we can get better speeds. 600mbps isn't bad, until you ponder that you're paying for 1000mbps.
My expectations are in 800-900mbps range. Even with the newest xpods, we have parts of the house with poor speeds, and the house isn't that big nor does it have lead lined walls.
I'm wanting to pass on that the Xfinity app, that says it's testing speeds to your gateway, is not exactly doing that. The very nice tech didn't dispute that when asked.

For what's it worth, I seen where Xfinity raised the speeds by 20%, so that download is possible
