Internet Extreme Download Speed test Result - what should I see?
I just switched to Internet Extreme a couple days ago. I am connected to my router using LAN, and the xfinity speed test returns 90 Mbps download and 24 Mbps upload. Should I see closer to 400 Mbps download?

If by "using LAN" you mean a device connected with an Ethernet cable, speeds limited to around 90 Mbps often mean either: 1. the device Ethernet adapter is only rated for 100 Mbps, or 2. the adapter settings limit its operation to 100 Mbps, or 3. the Etherenet cable is faulty.
What is the device brand and model number, and what operating system is it running? Mac? Windows? Other? If Windows, "Device Manager / Network adapters" should list the Ethernet adapter brand and model number.

Thanks, Bruce. You are correct, my router port is limited to 100Mbps, but I did try an ethernet connection directly from my modem which is rated up to 343Mbps with the same result, speed below 100Mbps, so if my plan goes up to 400 Mbps, I believe I should see numbers above 300MBps when I connect with a cable. I will call xfinity to confirm they have switched my plan.

Please see https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices: Search for SB6141, on the results page click "Show Unsupported Devices", then on the next page, "View details". Note that Comcast rates the SB6141 for speeds "Up to 284 Mbps". Also note also that the SB6141 has become "not supported".
Using devices on speed tiers for which they are not approved, and using unsupported devices, tends to produce unexpected results. In any case, you'll never see anything close to 400 Mbps with that modem. You'd need to pick one of the modems on the "Devices" page that is approved for that speed tier.
And if your router is only capable of 100 Mbps, you'd need to upgrade it as well if you want to actually see 400 Mbps.

Bruce:
Thank you for taking the time to patiently answer my newbie queries. I have been going crazy trying to speed test my wifi and RJ45 connection at different times of the day. As you say, maybe the instability of the modem and router is on display. I still believe I am only getting 100Mbps from the wall, but I cannot dispute XF unless I get a better modem and set it up. I got 90Mbps wired and 25 Mbps wifi earlier today, now I get 8Mbps wifi. Going crazy - so low at 2AM, should not be any cross talk. My laptop wifi card intel AC 3165 is capable 433Mbps - can I expect > 100Mbps on wifi with better equipment? Any opinion, Docsis 3.0 vs. 3.1? I don't expect to get > Gig speeds ever. Deciding between MG770 (3.0) and MG8702 (3.1). Your 5 cents?
Again, thanks for taking the time.

Does Device Manager show an Ethernet network adapter? The Intel AC 3165 appears to be a wifi-only device.
Since Intel claims 433 Mbps, I'd guess that the card should provide well over 100 Mbps, perhaps 300-350 or so.
The MG7700 and MG8702 are both approved for speeds well beyond the 400 Mbps you subscribe to, so either one should be fine. My preference is for a separate modem and router over a combo modem/router device, but that's a personal choice.
AFAIK the only benefit of a DOCSIS 3.1 device is that it can be used with Gigabit service if you would decide to go that way. A 3.1 device will cost more than a 3.0 device, but will be more future-proof. Again, your choice.
I should have asked before, but can you please post your the following information from your modem (log in to http://192.168.100.1 ) :
If there's a a problem with the connection between your modem and Comcast's network, may as well find out now! Be aware that posted images won't be visible until a moderator approves them. That might take some time, from a few hours to a day or so. Alternatively, you could upload images to a file sharing site and post links to them here, or post text instead of images.

Two days after your latest post, your images have still not been approved. They all look like this:
You could avoid further delay by uploading the images to a file sharing site and posting links to them here, or post text instead of images.

Two of the images were (finally!) approved and two were rejected. The downstream power levels and SNR are borderline, as are the upstream power levels. You might check the information in Internet Troubleshooting Tips to see if you can improve them.
Since I have no access to the two rejected images, I have no idea what they contain.

Bruce:
Thanks for taking the time. I ordered a new router and modem, just got them, will try them out, hope my speeds get closer to the spec. I hope I don't have to ask for help for a while now. I appreciate your expert assistance.

Asking again: does Device Manager show an Ethernet network adapter? The Intel AC 3165 appears to be a wifi-only device. Also what is the model number of the Wifi router?

Thanks, Bruce. Still puzzled, will have to follow up with Comcast. I get 90Mbps wired and 75Mbps wifi now, certainly an improvement in Wifi, but my input is supposed to be 400Mbps. I still wonder if they have enabled that speed at source. I have a Motorola MB7621 and the google 3 unit router.
