Internet drops - modem resets in the afternoon

Hi - I have this reoccuring problem with my home internet.

I use an Arris SB8200 connected to a Synology router.

In the afternoon - around 11 - 1 pm EST my modem will reboot - many times

When I look at the logs - its a lot of T3/T4 time outs

I know it the past its due to upstream/down stream power issues out of spec. (current modem status below)

And in the past Comcast has come out and changed some lines from the street to the house -etc.

However, this always seems to happen - more so in the hotter months and always in the afternoons - almost never in the evenings and nights - not sure why that is.

As this always seems to creep up and happen - been off and on for years.

I am beginning to think it might be my modem and not cables? - I don't have any unnessessary spliters or anything like that.

Would I be better off renting a XB8 and running that in bridge mode?

Do they have higher tolerances in power and won't reboot?

The problem did seem to get slightly better for a day or so after I power cycled my modem a few days ago.

Its just very strange that it comes and goes - I can go for days without it but then have weeks were its a lot of drops/reboots in the afternoon.

Anyways - I work remote from home and need to hopefully find a fix.

thanks

The upstream power is borderline high and it may be intermittently fluctuating even higher to out-of-spec levels. That can cause random disconnects, spontaneous re-booting of the modem, speed, packet loss, latency problems, and the un-bonding of channels.

In an effort to try to obtain better connectivity / more wiggle room, check to see if there are any excess/unneeded coax cable splitters in the line leading to the modem that can be eliminated/re-configured. Any splitters that remain should be high quality and cable rated for 5-1002 MHz, bi-directional, and no gold colored garbage from Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. Splitters should be swapped with known to be good / new ones to test.

Also check the coax cable for any damage such as cuts, nicks, abrasions, kinks, sharp bends, etc.

If there aren't any unneeded splitters that can be eliminated and if your coax wiring setup can't be reconfigured so that there is a single two-way splitter connected directly off of the drop from the street / pole with one port feeding the modem and the other port feeding the rest of the house/equipment with additional splits as needed and you've checked all the wiring and fittings for integrity and tightness and refresh them by taking them apart then check for and clean off any corrosion / oxidation on the center wire and put them back together again, then perhaps it's best to book a tech visit to investigate and correct.

Good luck with it !

@EG Thanks for your response - one of the questions I still have is why does this only seem to happen during the afternoons?

Quite welcome ! It's because the higher temperatures of the mid-day make line resistance / impairments even greater.
