Internet Data Usage

Xfinity sent me an email saying I was near my internet data limit of 1.2 terabytes.

So, I checked https://www.xfinity.com/xfinityassistant/ and it gave a 3 month usage trend.  Not really enough to figure out what might be causing the problem.

I checked all of our Windows PCs, cell phones, iPads etc.  The biggest user was a Windows PC that had used 64GB to backup a Microsoft OneDrive.

So, I haven't found what use up out Xfinity internet data.

Does anyone know of a way to get more detail than just the fact I have used 1.1GB?  Data usage for each day would be very helpful.  Data usage for each hour would be even more helpful.

The only thing that might be the culprit is I have read that there have been some LG clothes washing machines that have had run-away data usage.

Thanks,

Hello @truerock2, Thanks for reaching out for help with your data and devices. I understand you saw an increase in your data usage, and you want to find what device using the most data. For privacy and security, we don't monitor the exact data usage by device. However, with xFi controls you can set up user profiles, assign devices tho those profiles, and see the overall data that each device has used.

We have a guide here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-internet-background-data-usage, that goes over some applications that can use unknown background data. If you see any unknown devices, it also never hurts to update your Wi-Fi network name and password to re-secure your network.

I had a similar issue. In February I was warned that I was approaching the 1229GB data limit. We had been streaming more than previous months but had never been close to the limit. We cut down on the streaming, noting which programs seemed to be more data hungry. Then we stopped streaming for a few days by simply going out of town. We do not use "smart" services nor do we store to the "cloud" that would consume data, yet there was a steady 1-2GB daily draw that is not readily explained. We did send and receive a few photos via text during the hiatus, but other than them being associated with our comcast.net email accounts we have virtually no data flow. Yesterday and now home, we watched cable TV and DVR'd shows, sent and received a very few emails and texts yet the data consumption was 3GB per the Xfinity data usage site. That 3 GB was far larger than the sum of the messages. I want to also note that during February the mobile app and website indicated usages did not match so it was difficult to determine the actual total usage. They aligned in March. I have also been plotting daily usage since February. What can be causing GB of data usage when it should be KB & MB? Is TV usage being tacked on?
