Internet cuts out for some devices unless router restarted, but others are unaffected?

With covid we have a bunch of devices going at the same time. I never have problems with my work computer. However, there are times everyones internet drops but my work computer is literally the only device that keeps connected and working. (It definitely uses the home wifi though, all other devices say connected but no internet). Other devices start working again when I restart the modem/router. This is baffling me. Also, my FIL works late into the night and early morning (should be the only device on at that time) and his internet goes out almost nightly. He is on zoom conference calls most of the time and it eventually affects other devices. My personal computer almost never goes out either--- it is just certain devices that are connected but no internet. Does anyone else have this problem? Are there too many cummulative devices connected? Is it possible that his video calls are taking so much bandwith that it stops the router/modem and then prompts a restart?

I have a pretty similar situation.  My son's phone and laptop will drop and everyone else's device in the house seems OK.  My work laptop will remain connected, while he's scrambling to use his phone as a hotspot.  All are on WiFi, none are wired. Have also been curious if there's some limit to how many devices we can  / should keep connected at once.

Are the devices you have that still work after everything stops on VPN?  I have a problem where the gateway starts blocking everything until I reset the modem, but a VPN seems to be getting around it.

I have a similar issue. Every few days I lose connection on an old laptop running Xubuntu and a brand new laptop running Win 10 Pro.  The problem occurs with both 2.4 and 5 GHz links. Connection for these machines is recovered by rebooting the laptop or modem. All other devices in the network continue to run normally.   When it occurs the modem reports connections to both machines are okay.  The problem seems to be getting worse, so I wonder if the Comcast modem is failing?
