Intermittent packet loss starting in the evening.

Every night starting at about 7:45 PM central until around 8:00AM the next morning I start getting random bursts of packet loss. It averages to around 3-4% total but in reality it's more like it goes to 80%+ for a few seconds and then goes back to 0% for a little while and then the process repeats itself. I've already had a technician come by and he got rid of one of the splitters I was using to improve the signal strength but that didn't change anything. I've done multiple traceroutes when the packetloss is happening and they all come out like this. I've also tried multiple destination IPs.

The packetloss always begins at the very first node. Because of this, I'm not even able to bypass it and take a different route by using a VPN. Since the loss starts at the first node after the modem I don't think the source of the problem is anywhere on my property. Is there any way I can talk to someone who has the ability to fix this? Calling support just gets you someone who doesn't know what packet loss is.

I've done most of the things on that list, including testing with multiple different PCs. These are the signals I have with the modem in my living room. This is after a technician came and removed a splitter that was right before the modem but it didn't fix the problem. I have also tested it connected directly to the coax that comes into my house in the attic and it did not make a difference with the packet loss issue.

Most of the downstream channel power levels are still too low / out of spec. You should get the techs involved again until it gets fixed properly.

 

Bear in mind that if the premises facing techs can not find or fix a problem at your home, it is they who are responsible for escalating it to their line / network / maintenance dept. techs. The problem may lie beyond your home in the local neighborhood infrastructure somewhere but it is their S.O.P. to start at the home.
