Intermittent Internet outage - getting worse

My internet service has been on and off intermittently since Monday and it’s getting worse; yesterday there was no signal for almost 5h. I have already rebooted my modem and tried troubleshooting via my Xfinity account. No checks were suggested, instead a note stating ‘our system detected an issue with your internet performance that requires a technician to resolve’. No details about the nature of the issue or what a technician would do. This feels like a scam. I work from home and need the internet issue resolved but are very uncomfortable letting a stranger into my house without knowing in advance what he plans to do or what area of the house specifically he needs access to. Any suggestions what else I can try?

 • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
 • Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list
