Installing Coax Internet Ready
I was wondering if i would go through comcast or an electrician to install a coax output in one of my rooms far away from the modem. I do have access to internet on my desktop in this room, but would love to have direct internet for faster streaming. Where and how much avg wise would that run? Thanks !

Thank you for your very detailed information! Definitely helps a lot and i wasn't sure if this was a big project or not and seeing that is and im only renting where i reside, i will wait for project like this to be done on a house i own lol... thank yo again

If you want that wiring hidden, Comcast does not do wall fishing. Seek out a local low voltage electrician for that.

Cost depends on a number of factors;
- Type of cabling used: CAT 6 or better, preferably Shielded or CAT 6A
- Length of cable run
- Difficulty of install
- Geographical location (NYC is going to be very expensive. Kansas not so much).
- Time of day work can be completed.
As the previous poster mentioned you'll want to hire a low voltage tech if you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself. Call around to data or communications outfits they should be able to help you out. You should expect 1 -2 techs for 4-8 hours again this all depends on the factors above. Some will charge you for travel time as well. Costs can range from $150 to $1250+ plus materials and travel.
Few items to consider
- if you are going to hire it out make sure that they install the cabling in the walls and that they terminate them into wall plates so you have a jack to plug into.
- Make sure they certify the line so you know that 1. it works, and 2. that its transferring data at the speed the cabling is rated for. If you are paying for it make sure its right.
- Make sure that they install all data cabling run perpendicular to any high voltage power cabling and at least 18" away if they need to run in parallel.
- Make sure that they mind the bend radius in the cabling. A pinched cable will perform poorly.
- Make sure they use high quality cabling and connectors (Belden, West Penn, and Panduit are all high quality bands).
- This is your call but if they are running in plenum air space the cabling is supposed to be plenum rated. i.e. if they pull through your cold air return. Plenum cable costs more so its a spot where a lot of guys cut corners. If you need to run the cabling outside at all you can't do plenum as UV light will destroy the outer jacket.

I may have misread the OP if you need COAX run instead of ethernet cable then the same comments apply. Same cable brands. you would just ask for RG-6 Quad Shielded instead of CAT 6 etc...
