Incrementing Correctable and Uncorrectable codewords

I'm having issues with intermittent internet drops.  Checking on the XB7, I see "Correctable and Uncorrectable codewords" errors incrementing on every channel, with the worst channel being the channel using OFDM modulation (Channel 25).

I have a straightforward setup.  Feed from street into house, hits a 2 way splitter to (1) X1 DVR box and (1) XB7.  I had an Xfinity tech out roughly 3 months ago who found that there was noise coming BACK from the STB and replaced the cable ends on that coax line.  Afterwards he said it looked good.  The issue with internet dropping has still occurred since, but more frequently in the past week.  I've replaced the cable from the wall to the XB7, and errors are still incrementing (no drops yet, however, since I only replaced this cable 4 hours ago.

From everything I understand, this type of problem usually indicates a cable issue.  But that said, I can't find it.  And I can't replace the cable that is run through the walls from the basement to where I keep the cable modem, but I have a hard time understanding how that cable could just go bad.

Looking for advice and direction on advanced troubleshooting for this issue.

  • What should be expected for correctable and uncorrectable codewords?  Should these normally be 0, if ideal conditions are met?
  • What's the best way to test the quality of the cable that runs in my walls?  How can I tell if this cable is a problem?
  • How can I detect if my STB is once again back feeding noise into the coax line?  Would a noise filter work?

The modem still reports errors on all channels since I replaced the cable between the wall and the modem, BUT it has not dropped out since.  So, maybe a bad cable but still probably an issue with the in wall run.
