Incredibly Slow Service

There is only one place I can put my router in my home and it's resulting in incredibly slow speeds. My router it downstairs while my office is upstairs. Is there at way this can be improved?

user_zvb50s, Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to reach out and for your paitence while waiting for a response. I know how important it is to have a strong signal throughout the home as my router is also downstairs in my house. I can understand the concern with wanting to know if there is a way to improve the signal. You've come to the right place for our team of experts to help. One option is a wifi extender like our xFi pods. They extend your existing WiFi signal, effectively rebroadcasting it to cover larger areas or multiple floors. By placing an extender strategically, you can improve WiFi coverage on upper floors or in areas with weaker signals. The signal cascades down like a light. The higher the light the more area it covers. Please feel free to visit this link that explains it a little better here. Please also visit this link for more ways on how to improve your wifi performance here and let me know if any of these help.

Are you using a Xfinity provided gateway, e.g, the Xb8 or do you have your own equipment? Ethernet cables give the best results, for reliability and speed. If you're using a wifi router, you need to make sure that you're connected to the fastest wifi radio. There are down sides, though. For example, 2.4Ghz channels are limited to 11 and typically crowded. The 5Ghz and 6Ghz bands aren't as crowded, have more available channels to use. Gateways and routers are either dual band (2.4 & 5Ghz) or tri-band (2.4, 5 and 6Ghz). Features like Smart Connect want you to use the same SSID and password for all available bandwidths. This is less than optimal, as the router/gateway will assign a bandwidth and channel that may not be best, for your situation. Check the manual, if it's your equipment, on how to configure the wifi so you don't have all bandwidths on the same SSID and create SSID for each individual bandwidth, as well as a password for each. This way, you can set up your office equipment to use the faster bandwidth and channel. Hope this helps.
