I'm experiencing intermittent packet loss and latency spikes on my Internet connection

I'm experiencing intermittent packet loss and latency spikes on my Internet connection. It happens roughly every 10-20 minutes and causes high network jitter while gaming.

I've tested with my PC connected directly by Ethernet to the Xfinity gateway, so my third-party router is completely bypassed. During the problem, the gateway 10.0.0.1 remains stable at around 1 ms, but I get packet loss when pinging external addresses such as google.com or cloudflare.net. I've confirmed this isn't specific to one destination. My connection speed is normally around 700 Mbps down / 170 Mbps up. A Waveform bufferbloat test gives me an A, although the download test occasionally shows latency spikes as high as ~322 ms under load. I also checked the gateway's DOCSIS signal levels. Downstream power is as low as -15.7 dBmV on one channel and around -8 to -10 dBmV on several others. Upstream power reaches 49.5 dBmV. I've checked if there was any damage on the coax cable running to the box outside of my house but there doesn't seem to be any. This started around the time there was maintenance in my area. Could you please check my modem's signal levels, upstream/downstream error counters, and the node/CMTS for intermittent packet loss, upstream noise, or ranging issues?

Thanks for reaching out. We apologize for any connection issues you’re experiencing. What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far, such as rebooting your modem, replacing the coax cable, or using the Xfinity app during the issue to check whether a remote problem can be detected?

I've tried rebooting my modem multiple times, I have not replaced the coax cable because I did not see any damages on it, there is also no splitter. I would ping google and my gateway while I was gaming and I would see "Request timed out" for google while my gateway would not change in ping.

I'd like to take a closer look at your signal levels from our end.

@steelman220 If you could send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account, I'd be more than happy to look into this for you.

To send a Direct Message:

Ensure you are logged in

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

A "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it.

You can see how to send a direct message here, Direct Message Within The Forum.
