I can’t get my new computer to correctly connect to the internet

I bought a computer and it wouldn’t connect to our internet, we’ve tried resetting the computer troubleshooting the router and even taking it to Best Buy, where we bought it, in order to connect it to the WiFi, it does connect but always says no internet, and I’ve even made it a metered connection as it told me to do, at Best Buy it connected to their internet just fine no problem, but when we can back home it didn’t work at our house so we returned it and got a new one and it’s doing the same things we went to Best Buy and got all the updates but it still won’t work at home, so we think it has something to do with Xfinity. Please Help

What is the exact model number of your computer and are you using an Xfinity gateway?  It would be helpful to know what the radio hardware is in the computer and what it's trying to connect to.

Well, lets try this another way.  And connection metering won't help with this.

All WiFi radios are not the same.  Xfinity gateways like to speak WiFi 6 ac/ax by default.  There's a lot of gear including network adapters, printers, streaming devices etc that do not.  They speak 802.11 b/g/n typically, but they might speak something else too.   If you can't see your gateway WiFi, your radio probably isn't compatible with WiFi 6.

You can change the radio mode if it's an Xfinity gateway like this:  https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/change-wifi-mode-admin-tool-xfinity-xfi  Create separate and unique network names for the 2.4G and 5G SSIDs.

If you are using Xfinity Pods -- this will cause the pods to stop working.  If that is the case, or if you really just want WiFi 6, buy a WiFi 6 USB dongle for your computer so you can connect, and leave the radio mode in the default setting.  There are around $35 on Amazon.
