How to connect XR1000 router with USB file sharing to XB8

Good afternoon,

I am looking for some help.

I started to use Xfinity's XB8 modem/router instead of my own XR1000 router due to latency issues. Since xfinity doesnt let you connect external hard drives directly through their modem I would like to connect my old XR1000 router with the USB as an external storage option only, however I cant make it work. Could somebody please help me walk through what to do exactly if it is possible?

Hello @hkrisztian! Are you trying to have both modems active on your account at the same time?

No. I want to use the XB8 as my modem and my router, but I would like to connect my old, XR1000 router to the network as an external storage option.

@hkrisztian - you should be able to connect the XR1000 Router with an Ethernet Cat6 cable from the WAN (Internet) Port on the Router to any Ethernet Port on XB8.

However that setup will create a Double NAT, (What is double NAT and why is it bad?) for your client devices, and to avoid that issue, you can configure the XB8 CM into the "Bridge Mode",

In that setup the XB8 will function is a basic CableModem device, and the XR1000 Router will function as the main Router.

Good luck.
