How to connect Brother printer to XB8 router via ethernet cable?

Can you help me with how to connect an old Brother printer that is NOT wireless itself to my network (XB8) via ethernet cable?  It's plugged into the router ethernet now but I can't see it on the network from my laptop.  Thanks.

Where are you looking to see it ? Are you looking in your laptop's Control Panel >>>>> Devices And Printers >>>>> Printers And Scanners section to see if it is listed there ?

I have looked in the Finder (on my Mac) under Network, and have looked in the Printer settings panel (Add a Printer), but it is not listed in either location.  I have an ethernet cable connecting from the Brother HL 2170W printer's ethernet port to the Gateway XB8 ethernet port.

Hey there @user_mfy56j have you tried manually entering the IP address for the printer from the Printers/scanners menu? 

 

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac

You should be able to find it in the settings menu on the printer in the WLAN section.

Have you tried a different / known to be good ethernet cable, and / or using a different port on the XB8 ? Also, have you tried using the setup software w/drivers for that model ?
