How to activate Hitron CODA modem for faster upload speed?

Someone at Comcast Xfinity told me that our area has been upgraded to "Next Generation" internet and that I would automatically get faster upload speed if I purchased a new modem.
They said I could purchase either a Comcast XB modem or a Hitron CODA modem.
I installed the new modem and I can browse the Web.
However, my account still lists the name of my old modem and it says the "internet is offline".
And I don't have the faster upload speed.
Maybe Comcast tricked me into spending more money for no change in service.
Today I tried to call someone back at Xfinity and spent 3 hours talking to various people.
Somehow none of these people knew what I was talking about.  No one at Xfinity had heard of "Next Generation" or "10G".
Can anyone help me?
