How many wired and wireless devices can connect to new XB7?
I have been having problems with home Internet the past few months and finally had someone out who recommended I move up to the XB7 Gateway. I have two VoIP phones and need to connect by Ethernet directly to them.
Here’s the thing: Some service folks have told me I have too many wired (and wireless ) devices on the home system. I added my own wireless access points some years ago, and the house is wired with CAT5 Ethernet since we moved in (yes, I know we are now up to CAT6, but the wires are there already).
Anyway... I have had a total of 8-9 Ethernet connected devices, two of which are wireless access points for the network (some of those wired devices are connected through 4-port switches and converge on 3 of the 4 Ethernet drops around the house. Then there are ~33 WiFi connected devices ranging from laptops, cameras (Blink and Ring), down to thermostats and Light switches, and 3 Amazon Echo units, which do not draw much over the network at all.
Problem is: when everything is connected, the VoIP phone adapters don’t connect or sound like garbage.
Is there really a limit to wireless or am I choking the signal on the wired side?
Would I be better off with a mesh network of sorts, knowing I need to have a couple of Ethernet connections for VoIP AND two Network Accessible Hard Drives (used for backup and video storage)?
Thanks!!
