How do I port forward to a fixed IP address with an XFi router?

I have a Dahua video recorder on my network monitoring my security cameras. Dahua has a static IP address, it does not do DHCP. I want to forward the port used by its Internet app so that I can view my cameras when I am not at home.

I look in the pull down list of the xFi web site and do not see the Dahua listed. Nor anything else that has a static IP address.

Do these routers not do "real" port forwarding of a specific port to a specific IP address? Do I need to put the router into "bridge" mode and put a real router behind it to do "real" port forwarding?

Hello @badtux99

Thank you for your post! Here a great support article to help you set up port forwarding on your Xfinity Gateway. You can also find a link in this article to set up a port forward on a non-Xfinity gateway. Please let us and the community know if this helps!

@XfinityElizabethA That doesn't answer the OP question at all..... The important part of the question will be in all upper case for reference::

How does one port forward on an xfi gateway WHEN THE DEVICE TO BE FORWARDED TO HAS A STATIC IP ADDRESS?

I'm searching the interwebs and not finding an answer... Oh well - time to navigate the IVR....

I am sorry to hear the article provided above did not provide you with an answer @user_96deee . We are happy to continue to help come up with a solution. I am sure working together we will get to the bottom of this.

I do have a few general questions to make sure we are on the same page. How is your network set up now? What modem are you using (rental/purchased)? What is the device you are trying to set up?

A couple things to consider while setting up the port forward. The Xfinity app will use the IP address from DHCP to set a static MAC bind and establish the port forward rule. Do not attempt to set a static IP in the app, if you have done this you will want to remove the informaiton. Secondly,

Check Device Details and confirm that the device is using an IPv4 address to connect to the network and not an IPv6 address. The Xfinity app can only support port forwards for devices using IPv4 addresses. If the device is dual stack, you should check with the device manufacture on how to disable the IPv6 or set the IPv4 as “Preferred”.

I no longer work for Comcast.
