High Latency Spikes
My roommate recently moved out and we previously had an Xb3 modem I believe. I was connected via powerline and I was getting consistent gaming performance for online competitive with honestly minimal latency and no noticeable lag when gaming. However I switched to my own plan(1gb) and also ran an ethernet cable to my PC and my Internet speed/ modem test all come back with high speed/ no issues but man I have never played a game with so much rubber banding/ lag. This isn't the game server either as when the lag occurs I can't even open browser pages/load pages. It is significantly worse than the powerline adapter which is hard to believe since I live in an old apartment and who knows how the wiring is. What could be causing this? Should I just buy my own router/modem? It is unplayable even my voice in discord will cut out and sound like a robot. This probably happens every 30 seconds so it is unbearable.

Long story short here is what I did.
Logged onto modem at 10.0.0.1
Username: admin
Password: bottom of modem one
Downstream:
check: SNR levels looking for >35dB
check power levels: should be between -7 to + 7dBmV
mine was +12dBmV meaning my downstream power through the coax from xfinity was over amplified causing drop outs.
I ordered this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07882H96R?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
a 6 dB forward path attenuator and connected that inline with my COAX into the Modem. Now my power level is around 6dBmV and no longer have any issues with gaming.
Moving forward tho if I really wanted to optimize my internet I will use the modem in bridge mode and buy a new router because the current modem is operating at around 99% MRAM usage so it would be smart to have a standalone router.
