high latency at night

During the day my network has no issue, but during high use times, around 8-9 PM, my latency spikes, and I'm seeing 1000-2500 ms latency spikes.  I've been running WinMTR to monitor the issue, and it seems like it's limited to peak hours.  I have 1300/35 coax service.  I have done all the basics like reboot my router/modem.  My desktop is wired, so this isn't a problem with wireless access.

@EG The solution is to never use Comcast Xfinity for anything unless they're literally the only option at your house. And then just get ready for things not to work and for night but games and hassles from Xfinity tech support.

I'm having the same issue. For the past week or two around 7-12pm pdt my latency goes from 15/20 to 150+. I've had half a mind to call comcast but every time I do I can never get anywhere, and they always just try to make me buy something else.

@user_mm6mrm Same. They keep telling me they'll send a tech out, but then they never get around to sending a tech out. They literally say "we'll send a tech out" and I ask when they're coming and they reply "oh we haven't scheduled anyone yet". Then they said "we'll send someone on Monday". And then after I agreed, they said oh, or we can send someone Friday. But because I didn't see it to reply to that message (even though I agreed to Monday and they told me the time) they didn't send anyone Friday or Monday. It's like a joke.

I have a feeling a tech isn't going to fix the problem anyways if they send one. I just got a new router/modem from them about a month ago, and all the cables are fine, so my guess its on their end.

Like clockwork I was having fun gaming after work with 15 ping. Great games, 8pm on the dot rolls around. Get a giant lag spike and disconnect. Check the internet and I basically have [Edited: "Language"] download instead of the 1gb that I pay for and over 250 latency/ping. Comcast doing trying to cut corners or something. I really wish I could switch isp but good ol comcast and their oligopoly >:c

Thanks for your comment, user_mm6mrm. I'm sorry to hear about the disconnection while playing. As a gamer myself, I can understand your frustration and would like to help get to the bottom of this. What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? Did you try rebooting the modem manually or through the Xfinity App? Is this affecting all of your devices or just one?

@XfinityDilary Its all devices and yes I've restarted the router multiple times and run diagnostics on my pc and there are no issues with it. But the tv in the living room lags as well during these times. It literally seems like the internet signal just tanks almost every night these past few weeks.

user_mm6mrm Thanks for sharing all of these details. Since you've already restarted your router and run diagnostics, let's look at a few other things.

Have you noticed if this issue happens with devices connected directly to the modem with an ethernet cable, or is it only happening on devices using your Wi-Fi network? Also, do you notice if more devices are actively using the Wi-Fi network at night compared to earlier in the day?

@XfinityChristy My PC is hooked up via Ethernet and the TV/my phone wifi. It effects all 3 equally at the same time with no changes to the amount of devices. They just start to lag around the same time each night.
