HELP! SO SLOW!! Connecting a QNAP NAS to the xFi Gateway Device

Background: I purchased a new QNAP TS-h973AX-8G 9-Bay  to use as network storage for my home network. I do a lot video editing as a freelancer and I require to have access and send/receive huge video files. This is a very fast NAS (up to 10gb speeds) and it works great when connected directly to the computer using a RJ45 cable. But I need to have this NAS connected to my home network, to: 1st- Access it from anywhere via internet connection, and 2nd- Access files quickly with my laptop while at home via WiFi.  I have the 1GB unlimited internet plan from Xfinity using the xFI gateway device. BTW, I understand the basics that I am not going to have as fast of a connection via WiFi and that there are factors that affect speed (like how far away is my laptop from the xFi device). The xFi device has 4 ports on the back to share internet with devices directly, however, only one port is 10Gbps, the rest are only 1GBbs, which should be fast enough for my needs. My desktop only has one ethernet connector (RJ45/10gbs) and so I need the main 10gbs port on the xFi connected directly to my desktop to have the fastest possible internet at 1GBps plan that I have.

The Problem: I am able to connect the QNAP NAS to one of the other 3 ports 1GBps on the xFi device, the device shows up in the WiFi network and I am able to connect and see the files via WiFi, HOWEVER,  files access is extremely slow via WiFi! Around 3mbs (Using the black Magic disk speed tester) that is uncommonly slow compared to the 600mbps speeds I get when connected directly to the computer. I know and understand that I will not get those same speeds wirelessly, but I should be seeing (at least) ~200mbps data access speeds via WiFi based on the xFi hardware specs!! The bottleneck is absolutely on the xFi device, and I don;t understand why because if you measure internet speed using the comcast speed test, the data access speed rates for internet content are in the ~300s!!!  There has to be some sort of configuration for those ports on the back of the xFi unit that limits data transfer speeds... HOW DO I FIX IT??!

Getting a hold of a knowledgeable support agent at Xfinity is next to impossible! and having to explain the issue 10 times, to 10 different agents is frustrating. HELP!!!

The concern is not "Xfinity Home Security / Devices And Equipment" help related. Thread moved here to the proper help section for assistance.

Thank you for reaching out to us here today @Miami_FilmmakerDude. I would be happy to research any information I can find on that question for you from here. Could you send me a direct message with the full name and complete address for your service?

To send a direct message [private message]:

Click the "Direct Message" icon or  https://comca.st/3UCqQyI

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

   - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

   - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

   Press Enter to send it

Just a fellow user here, but I don't know of any xFi device that has a 10GbE port.

I believe the XB8 has (1) 2.5GbE and (3) 1GbE ports.

Perhaps the best approach for hard-wired connections would be to get a 10GbE switch (QNAP makes a few) and let the switch figure out what speeds everything will connect at.

Re wifi speeds, you should double check which wifi standards your adapter is capable of, and exactly which one it is using to connect to the gateway.

You'll want to be using at least 802.11ac (802.11ax better yet)  for best performance.
