Windows 10, LAN on MB (10/100/1000). MoCA filter and splitter where cable enters house - one leg to video distribution box, second leg directly to my modem. Had 200 MB plan and was getting around 180 MB. Upgraded plan to 1200 MB and modem (Arris SB8200, DOCSIS 3.1), Cat 6 directly from desktop directly to modem port just to test - would "spike" speed to around 700 MB then immediately throttle down to 320 MB - 380 MB. Reset and reprovisioned modem twice. No change. Had Comcast Tech out who checked speed at pole (1200 MB), speed at tap for house (1200 MB), speed at modem (1200 MB) with "excellent power levels" per Xfinity Tech. Add SB8200 in the mix and speed drops to 320-380 MB. Tech said "Speeds based on our equipment. SB8200 might not hold full boot file. Try our Xfi modem." Did that - same speeds. Would spike to around 600 MB then drop back to 320-380 MB. Hmmm, ok. Try another gig speed modem. Got a Netgear CM1200 yesterday. Set up with Cat 6 direct from desktop to modem. Testing wee hours of the AM and get a little better but not much - certainly not 1 GB.
Using speedtest.net app in W10 rather than browser test - Browser test is consistently 50-100 MB slower. Modem reports:

I'm at a loss to explain why I'm not getting the plan's reported speed. I think I've isolated just about everything on the system except changing out LAN card in desktop but I'm thinking that's not it since I was briefly seeing 700-800MB before it dropped back down to 320-380MB. Coax cable from tap on line to modem - check (good - no interference, no power drop, per Xfinity Tech). Cat 6 - check (good, tried two different ones). Modem - Check (three different modems, three different manufacturers). Power levels in spec - check (Xfinity Tech confirmed).
I'm at a loss to figure this out. Hopefully someone will have an idea.
My Sb8200 is not even in my 1gb tier anymore. I was told I need a new modem and should rent theirs for 15 a month. real nice, since my OG SB8200 was not even a year old when Xfinity told me it was a modem problem. Then I got a new SB8200 that didn't help my speeds either. Now its not compatible????? Really hoping Volo gets to my neighborhood faster than expected with their fiber internet.
@steagallcraig I suspect that's what I'll end up doing if Comcast can't give me the 1GB speed promised. Once I install the new NIC that will be the last step in isolating and replacing everything that could impact speed - coax, connectors/fittings, ethernet cables and NIC. New NIC supposed to come from Amazon today so depending on when it arrives (might interfere with family Easter activities), I'll pop it in and see what happens.
Step 1 complete - New NIC card installed and configured. Speeds on Netgear CM1200 below:
Initially got really excited with the first test after installation of the new 2.5G base network card - 817Mbps down!!! As with all things Xfinity though, my enthusiasm was quickly tempered by subsequent tests. Back to the usual 400-500'ish Mbps speeds. Should have the Arris SB8200 this afternoon; however, I'm doubtful that it'll make any difference. The NIC was the last component in the system that hadn't been replaced or changed. Everything else - cables, modems, connectors on coax have been replaced or confirmed by Xfinity Technician that they're "ok." At this point, I have no more solutions. Xfinity Xfi modem didn't work any faster either (was actually slower). I'm at a loss to figure this out.
I am sorry if I read a lot, but anyway I was on another forum, so this guy had installed I believe a cv 1150 or cv 2000, sorry I forget, he used the Xfi app to install it, so he was getting mediocre speeds, he did all the usual things to try to fix it, so he ends up on the xfinity.com page, so he checks out the status page, it showed there was a problem with his modem, so he had tech support reinstall it not using the Xfi app, well it magically started working correctly, I don’t know how you installed the modems you tried out, but maybe a glance at that page if you didn’t already, just a thought
New SB8200, couldn't provision via Xfinity app so called Xfinity to download boot file and provision. Results speak for themselves:
Technician coming 4/7. Not encouraged that he or she will find anything that the other guy didn't find. More to come of the "Xfinity Saga of Speed" (or lack thereof)
No love on the flush and register DNS commands - Same speeds in the 400-550 Mbps range. As for software for the SB8200, Xfinity controls that at provisioning. As you can see from the log file above, it's "d11_m_sb8200_gigabit_c01.cm" and then some "incompatible SW file" [assume this is software] error message. That's on Xfinity's end if it's not provisioning properly. That's bugged me and I TOLD the Xfinity Tech on the phone with me when it wouldn't provision via the app that there was an error message. "No, everything looks good on our end." Hmmm, well if that's the case, why am I not getting my 1GB service???
Right, they control that but for some reason insist on sending the wrong one. I currently have AB01.02.053.01_112320_193.0A.NSH and from what I have read and been told, that is the most recent one. I don't know that for a fact though. I had d11_m_sb8200_gigabit_c01.cm and it gave me fits. really low speed and all kids of time outs. was getting that error message as well. actually, I get that error message with what I have now too. My fastest speed came with the basic software that came with the modem. it took several days for the updates to start going through one by one. The user panel sucked, there was no login in, it just went straight to modem with no protection and no advanced features, but it was fast. it updated and then started downhill for me again. If you talk to the right person, they might be able to get you the d11_m_sb8200_gigabit_c01.cm and see if that makes a difference. Like I said before, I am done with this stuff. I have been dealing with it for a year and no dice. Just going to downgrade my service and wait for another provider. Volo fiber is literally across the street and making its way to my street by summer. at least I hope so.
So I just read on another forum, the usual speed issues, so he booted into safe mode with networking, well he got completely different results doing this, I guess maybe a test if it’s actually windows causing the bottleneck, just a thought
So for anyone interested, networking with safe mode made no difference in speed. I've spent the afternoon swapping out modems and summarizing the various results. Maybe there's a Comcast employee that is willing to opine on the issue and a possible solution. All tests done this afternoon with the Speedtest app (consistently more accurate and faster than the web-based speedtest):

If the tech visit scheduled for Wednesday can't figure this out, I'm going back to my former speed tier and save the $10/month.

I am just throwing hail Marys right now. Still working though my issues as well. What software version does your sb8200 have?

I'll try safe mode with networking and report back.
