Get XB6 or Keep Arris TG1682G? (Have Blast Internet Package)

I've had the Arris TG1682G modem/router for at least eight years or more.  Recently the internet goes out randomly and have to do a reset by unplugging modem, etc.  Today an Xfinity phone representative told me the problem isn't the speed but rather the range of the modem is not what it should be.  He suggested I swap the older modem for the XB6 but will have to set it up myself since techs aren't available to do so.  Is this a good modem to have for use with the Blast internet speed we have?  I don't want to pay any more for our internet because I get a new modem.  I'm just hoping that if I get this modem it won't be worse than we've already experienced with our older Arris.  This is important since our daughter who is a computer coder/designer is working from home full-time right now and has been for months.  We can't be without internet because of her job.  Any and all help or comments are welcome by this baby boomer!  Thanks!  Susan

Thanks, but I've already looked at all this information over the last few weeks as this problem has gotten worse.  What the tech said to me after doing speed tests in various parts of the house was that near the modem the range is great speed but the farther away I got with the computer the range was weaker so the speed went down as well.  Outside at the Comcast box and inside the speed is fine, but the range is what is not working as well with the older Arrris modem.  He said the newer model should work much better.  I'm just not wanting my monthly bill to go up because I get a new modem.

Have the older Arris model preceding XB6 but keep getting lower speeds and freezing internet which unplugging and replugging modem helps temporarily.  Is the XB6 a valid upgrade to get?  Does a modem ever get outdated as far as signal weakness in a house?

Ok, I have tested the speed on two laptops--one on the desk right next to the Arris XB3 gateway and one downstairs not far away from the gateway.  At first the laptop upstairs had a marvelous 237 Mbps but that has now dropped to 91 to 1.06 Mbps on the test after a few hours.  The laptop downstairs is anywhere from 72 to  127 Mbps which is pitiful.  I'm on the Blast! internet plan which I believe only goes to 200 Mbps speed.  But definitely something is wrong here!  Also, our televisions have been pixelating much more over the last few days.  Yes, I've restarted the modem and checked all connections.  I've already called tech support twice in the last month and gotten nowhere.  Is there any solution to this ongoing problem?  (Our contract runs out after Sept. and at this point we'll probably try AT&T since it's the only other provider locally.)  This is very frustrating especially with someone working from home and needing a computer internet that works!
