Gateway hotspot won't turn off

I recently received a newer gateway (XB7), and since then have not been able to successfully disable the "xfinitywifi" and "XFINITY" networks on the 5ghz band. I have toggled the Guest Wifi Hotspot setting through the main Xfinity account website on and off multiple times, with no improvement. What is the correct process, other than using that setting apparently, to get them to go away?

You will not be able to disable it.  Even if you manage to turn it off, it will be re-enabled on the next release/renew cycle of your modem.  The only way to get rid of it is to return the leased hardware and buy your own.

Thank you for Reaching out to our Xfinity Forums, @commodore_dude! (Your username brings back the old days memories, LOL)! Have you gone into the modem settings itself? If not, I will be happy to help walk you through some steps to disable the hotspot. Will you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

@XfinityKimberlyB I do not believe any settings on the gateway itself will help, since I am also running in bridge mode (I had been under the impression even before then, when I have had gateways not in bridge mode, that the hotspot could only be disabled from my account settings, not the gateway settings). I will send a message and update back here on the thread for others if we reach a solution, though.

Not sure why this needs to go private.  It needs to be be readily apparent to everyone that using hardware supplied by xfinity results in hotspots that can't be turned off, and access to most of the settings for your network are disabled by them.

Well, I have not received a response to my DM from several days ago - I see other folks with the XB7 are reporting the same issue, so there is definitely a widespread issue to be fixed...

Hello, @commodore_dude, we appreciate you reaching out to our team on Forums regarding the Hotspot feature. We encourage you to keep your Home Hotspot enabled as it allows more people to enjoy the benefits of Xfinity WiFi, but you can always choose to disable it on your Wireless Gateway. Using the Xfinity app (available to download on Apple App Store or Google Play), navigate to Connect > See Network > Advanced Settings > Xfinity WiFi Hotspot Network and slide the toggle to enable/disable your Home Hotspot. Through your account, navigate to Services > Internet to access the Xfinity WiFi Hotspot. Read more about turning the Home Hotspot off or on and for step-by-step instructions here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/disable-xfinity-wifi-home-hotspot?.

I do not see these options in the Xfinity app - there is nothing called "Connect". I can only seem to view my account. The link in the above message goes to an Xfinity 404 page, unfortunately.

The app should be purple with a white X. Not the My Account app. Can you confirm if this is the app you are using?

I no longer work for Comcast.

After doing some Google searching, this appears to be a widespread issue.  I'm also experiencing this, and even swapped my XB7 to an XB8, did a factory reset, and waited 24 hours.  Talking to Xfinity via Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/zmywqo/modem_is_still_broadcasting_xfinity_ssid_despite/) and getting this escalated.

@schubster Were you able to get this resolved? I see the post was marked as solved, but didn't see specific details.

@XfinityGabby  Turning it off doesn’t actually turn it off, all it does is disable the Xfinity SSID from being broadcast, it still transmits the signal, Xfinity mobile uses the hotspots as a vital part of their service, connecting to these hotspots you use no data, in my city all the hotspots I connect to with my IPhone, all have have the Exact same Ip address and router Ip address, it kind of reminds me of a round robin type dns from my irc days as a admin, interesting thing about hotspots, I can connect to 3 or 4 simultaneously for very good redundancy and as a diagnostic tool….
