Gateway by itself resets SSID

My XB8 gateway has 3 SSIDs:

  • myname2G (2.4GHz)
  • myname (5GHz)
  • myname6G (6GHz)

With my laptop and phone I normally connect to the myname 5GHz SSID. Note this is the only SSID that is auto-connect.

Today I couldn't connect to WiFi with either my laptop or phone. The only SSID available was myname2G. I was able to connect to myname2G.

With my computer browser I connected to 10.0.0.1. There it said all three bands had the same myname2G SSID.

I then used the xFi app. It said I still had the original 3 SSIDs. I told it to update my data. Checking my browser again at 10.0.0.1 the gateway now said it had 3 SSIDs.

With my laptop I connected to myname (5GHz). Unfortunately, ten minutes later my wifi became disconnected. I confirmed that my gateway by itself had gone back to only using the 1 SSID myname2G for all bands.

I again used the xFi app and again told it to update my gateway. I again confirmed at 10.0.0.1 that the gateway again had 3 SSIDs. The WiFi settings have not changed since.

Note during the whole time the xFi app always thought I had 3 SSIDs. The problem was the gateway by itself was changing its settings to only use 1 SSID.

Can anyone explain this? Does the XB8 have bugs?

Just curious... when did you get your XB8, and what state do you live in?

Thanks!

I live in Alabama and I received the XB8 last week.

I do need to add some context. For over one month my WiFi speeds have been a fraction of what they were for the past year. For example my Samsung S21 with 802.11ax which was getting 600-800Mbps is now getting only about 150-200Mbps. Countless calls did solve the problem. I was told I was eligible for an XB8 and offered to send me one. I accepted. I received another XB7 instead. Unfortunately, the WiFi of the 2nd WB7 did not work any better than the first one.

A Tech was sent but he said that they were not responsible for anything inside my home which included the XB7. He was about to leave but came back and offered me an XB8. Without thinking I accepted it. He replaced my 2nd XB7 with an XB8. I don't think I would have been charged for the visit but by giving me the XB8 allowed him to charge me $100 for its installation.

I am very unhappy about all this. Before, I retired I was an engineer so didn't need any help installing any equipment. Also, I really didn't need the XB8 at this time because I don't have anything that is WiFi 6E. I will in the next year but not right now.

BTW, my next door neighbor has AT&T Fiber 500Mbps. I tested my laptop and phone on his WiFi. I got twice the WiFi speeds than I was getting with the XB8.
