Frequent Downstream Errors & Very High Uncorrectable Codewords

My service has been fluctuating between excellent and awful lately. I have the Netgear CM1000v2 modem with DOCSIS 3.1 and I'm on the 600 Mbps plan.

The downstream OFDM channel seems to have power levels that go up and down significantly. The Uncorrectable Codewords are very high at times when I notice a problem, and low when things are fine. Logs show many instances of CM-Status code 1, 4, 5 - along with 21 and 23. It's very obvious when errors are happening because the mouse pointer on my remote work session skips around and is sluggish (VMware horizon).  Also, I get a lot of buffering and disconnects when streaming  video.

Hi @OFrabjousDay!

Sorry to hear about the lagginess you're seeing! You sound like you're pretty comfortable with tech, but just to cover all the bases, is the coaxial cable unkinked and unbent? Are the connections at either end snug, but not super tight? Is there a splitter on the line inside? Do you see any damage, fraying or corrosion on connections?

@XfinityGina Hi, there is a home run from the entry point in my attic to the cable modem.  Everything is tightly connected and there are no splitters.

I appreciate you checking! It's one of the easier things to rule out as a first step :)

Are you using a separate router with the CM1000v2? Or are the downstream errors and uncorrectables happening while hardwired? You also mentioned remote work, do you use a VPN? If you're using one or both of those, can you let us know if the same issues occur if the router and/or VPN are removed from the equation?

I no longer work for Comcast.

The CM1000V2 is modem only and I have Google Wifi setup in the house.  I have tested from wired and wifi and that does not appear to be the issue.  When I have a problem, the power level on downstream OFDM drops significantly and SNR/MER drops drastically as well.  Not sure if this is a capacity issue, or a problem between the house and comcast, but nothing changes on my side that would explain the problem.  I thought I had posted statistics before, but here they are again.

Stats example when things are working:

My work is not using a VPN connection.  It connects through a secure site using VMware Horizon.

I appreciate the data, and the clarification on VMware Horizon, that's not a tool I've run across before.

It sounds like the next step here is for us to look into our systems, so please send us a direct message, using the following instructions:

(Full credit to @BruceW for this excellent explanation and @Again for the picture!)

"Search for Xfinity Support" won't work. To send a "Direct Messaging" message to Xfinity Support:

 • Click "Sign In" if necessary

 • Click the "Direct Messaging" icon:

or https://comca.st/3vnOvqQ

 • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

 • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

 •  - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

 •  - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

 • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

 • Press Enter to send it

See https://comca.st/3Ocew5b for an example.

I no longer work for Comcast.
