free xfi pods

For years, I was locked in with a cable/internet company that was not good, but they were our only option in my town. Xfinity was finally able to service our area and I was thrilled!!! I was one of the very first new Xfinity customers in my area. During installation I was told that if the Wi-Fi wasn't good through out the house we would be eligible for free xfi pods. After having service for a few weeks we determined that we did not get coverage throughout our house and when calling Xfinity we were told the only option is to purchase the pods. My old service may have been horrible, but at least it worked throughout my house! Opting to NOT purchase the pods, as they are costly (in my opinion), we dealt with the poor quality of internet service and knew that we could only get a good signal if we were in sight of the modem.  Not too long ago, knowing how bad the other options are where I live, we renewed our Xfinity plan and upgraded to a faster internet, hoping that would resolve the issue.  No such luck! In fact, we think it may even be worse. Our downstairs is a big L shape. The modem is in the bottom right of the lower line of that L. By the time you get to the top of the L, which is about 34 feet away, no service. I have received and submitted multiple surveys asking about my service and every time have expressed dissatisfaction. When asked if I'd like a follow up, I get nothing. Of course, as with everyone else in this forum, the link for free xfi pods brings me to "you do not qualify" and the only option is to purchase these costly pods. Well, no, that is not my only option. There are other cable/internet providers in the area and it is seeming as though the best option may be to go back to them.

The best advice is to return the hardware provided to you by xfinity and buy your own modem and router.  The hardware provided by any ISP is lower tier hardware; designed to meet the bare minimum requirements at the lowest cost to them.  The advantages of using your own hardware are numerous.  You will get better hardware.  You will have much finer grained control over your network.  You can also set up a mesh system that will ouperform *ANYTHING* that xifinity offers.  Make sure that the modem you buy is on the approved (compatibility) list for your plan. I would recommend getting a router that is capable of delivering higher speeds than your current tier, as this will allow you to move up if you choose to do so.  I also personally recommend that you purchase a modem and a separate wireless router.  That way, you can upgrade the router later, as new standards, security features, etc, happen far more often in routers than they do in modems.  Good luck!
