First gen Xfinity pods

I was using first gen Xfinity pods with an Xfinity router.  I moved and recently got a new Xfi router for my connection.  The connectivity is really good but the coverage for Wi-Fi is not so good.  I tried connecting my Xfinity pods to the system and only one of them connected and the second one seems to be totally bricked now.  For devices that connect to the Xfi pod, internet is possible but extremely slow and spotty.  I am a very technical guy and have provided senior level technical support for internet and routers for some time, including for the last few years.  I can't seem to find a path to reach Xfinity support directly to see if I can possible exchange my Xfinity pods (which I purchased from Xfinity) for possible newer gen pods that will work.

I have the same issue, and my wifi is continually dropping off from the pods. The wifi near the router is fine, but either room at the back of the house is terrible. The house is under 1000sqft so I didn't think I'd even need pods. My wifi won't even reach my Orbi outdoor anymore.

Megacabcummins — you may be able to improve both range and reliability by using a different Wi-Fi band, assuming your devices support it. Current Xfinity xFi gateways are multi-band (2.4, 5, and 6 GHz) and normally choose the best band automatically when a device connects.

If your device is connecting on 5 or 6 GHz, the signal can become spotty at longer distances. Higher bands deliver faster speeds but have much shorter range. For most modern devices on Xfinity, 5 GHz is the sweet spot and can realistically deliver close to 1 Gbps if your internet plan supports it.

If you force the router to use 2.4 GHz only, you’ll get greater range at the expense of speed. If that still doesn’t solve the issue and you’re using an Xfinity gateway, adding Xfinity Pods (extenders) is the next best option.

@user_uj551v my longest distance is to my Orbi and I think that's 35'. My new PC and it's wifi antennae are 18' or so with two walls separating them. I will try the different HZ like you suggested if I can. LOL answering your own post is awesome :)

@XfinityJohnG can I just message you so I don't clog up user_uj551v's post?

Yes, you can always send a direct message with the full name and complete address for your service.

To send a direct message [private message]:

Click the "Direct Message" icon or  https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

   - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

   - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

   Press Enter to send it

Hello user_uj551v thanks so much for taking the time to reach out here via our Xfinity Forums, and your knowledge and experience are greatly appreciated here! There is no way to upgrade from Gen 1 to Gen 2 devices, however, if the purchased Gen 1 Pods are within their 1-year warranty period, we're happy to work with you on getting those examined, and we do have our Exchange policy as outlined on our site below.

How to return or exchange Xfinity WiFi Extenders or Pro WiFi Extenders

Thanks for the reply. I was mainly trying to understand whether Xfinity would replace or upgrade my existing xFi Pods. With my original Xfinity gateway, the pods worked very well and provided solid coverage throughout my home. The newer gateway is noticeably faster, but it doesn’t seem to integrate well with the older pods, which has reduced my overall Wi-Fi coverage.

I understand the warranty limitations given the age of the pods, and I appreciate the clarification. My longer-term plan is to upgrade to a larger multi-point Wi-Fi system to cover a multi-acre property, so updated pods would have been a temporary bridge until then. I figured it was worth asking—especially since reaching Xfinity support directly for questions like this has become more difficult lately.

btw, how would a senior tech support guy (lead/manager) get a role on the support team there helping your customers?  I think we could get megacabcummins range issues with his Orbi addressed with a few tweaks...

You're welcome, @user_uj551v. That will be so nice to have your whole property set up for internet! Sweet!

One option that may interest you. We have come out with our new Xfinity Pro service, https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/xpro. This gives you a pro WiFi extender and WiFi backup. We run whole home WiFi tests, similar to when we had xFi Complete. Depending on those results, you can get up to 2 Gen 2 WiFi extenders at no cost. That service is $15 per month. 1 Gen WiFi extenders would not be compatible with this service.
