expanding WiFi with Ubitiqui access point

I have a UAP-AC-LR connected to my CGM4331. I can see and connect to it's SSID but do not get an internet connection.

Is there some reason why this should not work? I don't want to bridge the Gateway or use some other type of WiFi extender/mesh device.

Thanks

@Erin3226 Hello! Have you tried to set the gateway to bridge mode to see if that would work?

FWIW. The Comcast gateway device can not be in bridge mode. It becomes a plain vanilla cable modem in that way. That AP needs a router / gateway device that does DHCP.

IMPORTANT: The UAP-AC-LR requires the UniFi Controller v4.7 or higher, available at: ui.com/download/unifi

I have UniFi 6.5.53 so I think that's not the problem. It should be a simple matter to add this AP but I think something in the xfinity gateway is preventing the internet connection.

Is the AP connected to the Xfinity Modem via an Ethernet? If not, please go ahead and do that now.

@XfinityBilly

It won't connect to the Comcast gateway device if it's in bridge mode. It's not a router, it's just an AP. It needs a router to connect to. The Comcast gateway in bridge mode is just a straight cable modem / layer 2 bridge. I commented on this earlier in this thread.

Obviously if I were to bridge the gateway I would need a router downstream, which as I already stated I don't want to do (or see the need to do).
