Ethernet speed and ping

My wifi runs fine, and my ethernet does work, but my ping to different games is much worse than it was a month ago. I used to run around 10-20 ping and now I run 70-90. I tried running a traceroute to a couple of different game servers and the issue was always this hop and then everything went up from there. Any suggestions or fixes?

Hi, @user_70d932. Thank you for reaching out. It's a bit odd your performance is better over the wireless network then hardwired to the equipment. Are you using an Xfinity Gateway or personal device? Have you done general test like swapping the port or Ethernet cable?

@XfinityVianney I have tried swapping ports and cables, neither of which have worked. Firstly, when you mention my WiFi running better than my hardwired connection, that is not the case. They both work, and run the same speed which was not the case before. My Ethernet use to run much faster than the WiFi, but not anymore. Secondly, when you ask whether I use a xfinity gateway or a personal device, is that asking whether I use a xfinity router or not, or whether I am using my own computer as opposed to a xfinity issued device? Thanks for the response

@user_70d932, I apologize for the confusion. Are you using your own modem or are you using the modem provided by comcast? Now as a gamer my self, I know that ping can be different on games depending where the game servers are located at. When I play Warzone, I get a higher ping than when I play Fortnite or Valorant. It is really hard to get a lower ping without moving closer to the server you are connecting.

@XfinityRoberto I am using a Comcast-provided modem. I completely understand that the ping can differ depending on server location, I am just curious as to why it suddenly went so high with no explanation. I have not moved anywhere and nothing in my setup has changed. Any ideas? Thanks for the response.

Let's take a further look into this together.

To send a direct message [private message]:

  •    Click "Sign In" if necessary
  •    Click the "Direct Message" icon or https://comca.st/36Z8rYC
  •    Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  •    The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.
  •    - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.
  •    - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.
  •    Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  •    Press Enter to send it

I no longer work for Comcast.
