Ethernet ports

I am trying to connect ethernet ports that have came preinstalled in my new home that I just purchased. I may be wrong but what I am trying to do is plug in an ethernet cable from my XB8 gateway into the ethernet port I have in my living room. From there I am accessing my network panel in installing a switch in which plugging in all the other ethernet cables into my network switch but only one light in my switch is lighting up, meaning only the ethernet port that is coming from the modem (in the living room going into the wall) is getting power. I have tried moving all cables around to see if that was an issue but no success. Only "fix" I can think of is moving my modem into the network closet but I don't have a coaxial connection in the room. Please help and thank you in advance.

user_ihd7jf Hey there! Congrats on your new home, what an eciting time! Were you able to get your switch working to the other ethernet connections?

No I was not. Only one port is showing that it is getting connections. The others are not lighting up.

We would normally see the gateway installed in the media closet and then go out to the ethernet ports in the different rooms from there, user_ihd7jf. We can get an installation visit set up to further help with getting this connected as our Technicians would be the experts in this area of things. Would you like to test things further on your end or go ahead and get that set up?

How much would it be for a technician to come out here and see what could be done?

Our installation visits cost $100 (unless there is a promotion) and are billed to the statement following your visit. It sounds like it would be well worth the money since nothing seems to be working with all the different connections you have tried. We want your service working well and it is so cool that you have a smart home! We would need their assistance getting that all set up from here.
