Ethernet port on the back of Xi6-T Box

I have an old windows desktop without WIFI. Started life with windows 7 now windows 10. I want to locate this computer next to the Xi6 box.

Is the ethernet port on the back of the box for input or output? Can I connect an ethernet cable to both and reboot all?

Thanks in advance

I don't think connecting the PC to the Xi6 will work. I assume that port is for the Xi6 to use if you don't have or don't want to use WiFi. It will not act like an Ethernet switch and allow you to get Internet access to a computer connected to it. It's no different than many other devices that have both WiFi and Ethernet.

Apologies, I misunderstood. I was thinking of an "XB6" gateway, not an "Xi6" cable box. Andy is correct. Ethernet ports on Comcast cable boxes, if they are used at all, are for connecting that box to the Internet. They are client devices and can't be used to provide an Internet connection to another client device.

Ethernet ports on Comcast's gateways and on any PC I've ever seen are bidirectional. Each port carries traffic in both directions. The standard hookup is one cat 5e or better cable between one of the gateway ports and the Ethernet port on your computer (or any other Ethernet device).

This would have been correct for an Internet router or gateway device, but not for a "TV box". See below.
