Ethernet not working in bridge mode

I have a Xfinity 6 gateway.   When I plug my laptop into the gateway via ethernet, I have connectivity (WiFi turned off.)  In bridge mode, there is no ethernet connectivity when my laptop is directly plugged in (regardless of left or right ethernet port.)  I discovered this issue after my Orbi Router went down after a few months and I have been unable to re-connect as it keeps saying there is not internet.  Any thoughts on how to fix?

You could try a factory reset on the XB6.  It might also just be dead.  Do you get a link light on the laptop and gateway when the laptop is plugged in?  Or on the Orbi?  If you don't get a link light with the Orbi or the laptop you almost certainly have a dead gateway.  Same if you can't log into it after setting a static IP on your laptop on the same subnet as the gateway's management IP.  Usually the default is 192.168.100.1 or 10.0.0.1.  Sometimes it's printed on the unit.  I don't know what the default is for an XB6.  There are 2 ways to fix a dead gateway.  One is to have Comcast swap it out for a new one, the other is buy a modem and return the XB6.  It's really easy to get Comcast to swap out a gateway.  It's one of the first things they try when there's a problem.  The quickest way is usually to take your gateway to a Comcast store if you have one nearby.
