Ethernet doesn't have IP configuration
Last week we got the new xfi gateway modem and installed it. Everything worked fine that day, however the next day the desktop computer would not work, but all of the other devices could connect to the xfi gateway.
The error message for the desktop computer said ""ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration."
We restarted the modem, made sure that all the plugs were tightened/inserted correctly, unplugged and plugged everything back in, called customer service but would be told in the end to talk to the original manufacturer for the tower, we took the tower in to be serviced but was told it was working fine with their internet.
Would anyone happen to have a solution for this problem?

Solution, no. But things to check. Other folks have reported failed Ethernet ports on Xfinity gateways. Are the link lights on the gateway AND device indicating there is a connection? What color on the gateway?
If you are using the Ethernet port with the red or orange stripe, it's a 2.5Gbps port. Try one of the other ports. They are 1Gbps ports. Have you tried the network troubleshooter in Windows? Sometimes, it can reset the port on the device/computer. Or boot with a Linux install live cd to take the OS out of it and see if the port works then. Try both from a hard A/C power off (physically pull the A/C cords).
Cables can be problematic too. Have you tried a different Ethernet cable? If the ports are truly dead, then swapping the gateway may be the only option left.
