Ethernet Connection

I just got a new Xfinity modem/router and tried to connect via Ethernet to my pc. However, it does not register the connection. The Ethernet cables aren’t an issue. I’ve logged into the router and have seen that the ports are inactive and I’ve tried to activate them by factory resetting the router but no dice. I just want to be able to get an Ethernet connection so I don’t have to use wifi. Assistance would be much appreciated.

Sometimes the Ethernet port driver on a laptop/PC can be disabled.  It's in your network settings for Win/MAC/Linux/BSD.  You might have to switch it on.  Usually, it turns itself on if you plug an active cable in, but sometimes not if you intentionally disabled it at some point.  It's worth looking for.

I don't know if you got link lights or not on your PC or on your gateway.  They doing anything?  If they are blank, got an old switch or old router you can plug into with the same cable(s)?  See if they light up just for a sanity check?

It wouldn't be the first Xfinity gateway reported here with dead Ethernet ports.  You could try the other ports on the gateway.  You might have to swap it out.  If there is an Xfinity store by you, that would be the quick way to do it.  IF this page is still current, you might be able to do it by mail this way too and order a replacement:    https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/returning-your-equipment
