Equipment Upgrade Notice from Xfinity

I received a very vague email from Comcast about how the cable network was being upgraded in my area. Because of a certificate expiration issue related to the DOCSIS 3.0 modem I’m currently using, I need to upgrade my equipment.

The email has a link to modems I can upgrade to - most of these modems I scanned through are DOCSIS 3.1 modems. I’m using a service tier that is on the low end. Do I need to upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.1 modem or are there DOCSIS 3.0 modems that can be used with a low speed service tier after the network is upgraded in my area?

Right after Xfinity hiked most people's data rate for free back in October, there were LOTS of folks on here complaining about how their new and improved data rate now exceeded the *approved* data rate of their previously perfectly functional modem, and that they were now getting *worse* performance than pre-hike.

Xfinity really, really, REALLY doesn't play well with gear that isn't approved for your Xfinity data rate, and since they're now so enamored of upping data rates on a regular basis, I'd recommend you go DOCSIS 3.1 ASAP so you don't end up in that same position.

@XfinityRoberto

I recently found an Arris T25 modem.
Can this DOCSIS 3.1 device be used for Internet service only, even if the modem also supports telephone service? I am only interested in subscribing to the Internet service.

Hi @user_d7204a. That is a great question! You can use that modem for internet only service. When signing up for services, we would just activate the internet portion of the modem for you.

Is this e-mail valid?

Order your new X1 TV equipment today! As early as June 26, 2023, your current TV equipment will no longer allow you to access Xfinity On Demand.

@user_7b9c69 I do apologize for the delay in getting back to you. This post is a little old in the future you may want to make a new post for your issue if you do not find a recent post related. As for the email you received that is correct some older boxes our customers are using will no longer support some of our awesome features. You can still take advantage of these features by swapping out your older equipment for our newer X1 boxes! No worries there is no charge for the swap, and you can order your new boxes right from the email you received to make it super easy for you. If you have any issues please let us know we definitely want to make sure you can still take advantage of all your features!
