Enabling Privacy on MoCa Network
Hello,
I just enabled MoCa on my XB7 and installed an adapter in another room for my stepson’s Xbox. Got everything working, but since I’m in an apartment, I don’t know if a PoE is installed on the outside line. Under MoCa diagnostics in the XB7, privacy is disabled.
How can I enable this on my XB7? If I am able to enable this, would I still need a PoE on the outside line? If so, would Xfinity charge me to come out and check?
Thanks in advance for your time!

AFAIK the Comcast rented gateway devices do not have a MoCA privacy / security feature built in. A PoE filter must be used, and it is they who are responsible for installing one on their side of the line / demarcation point. Therefore there should not be any charge.

I'm no expert on MoCA but have it installed via stand alone adapters. My understanding is that if there is a PoE filter between the modem/gateway the MoCA data cannot get past the Cable Modem to the outside world. The adapters I have will permit me to assign a password to encrypt data traveling on the MoCA network. I haven't done so because if the PoE filter is doing what it's supposed to, none of my MoCA traffic is leaving my house.
An apartment may be a different kettle of fish though I don't know how the MoCA signal would get from your XB7 to outside your apartment walls if you have a PoE filter between the XB7 and the coax where it enters your apartment. I also don't use an Xfinity gateway but I don't know that there would be any difference between and XB7 and any other MoCA device. If you're concerned about network speed I don't know what speed the XB7's MoCA is. There are several MoCA speed standards. Older devices were limited to 175 mb./sec. or less. More recent devices run around 475 mb./sec up to 2.5 gb./sec.

@user_939e87 The type of dwelling makes no difference..It's a standard. Their MoCA implementation doesn't employ any MoCA security... Most other modern third-party MoCA 2.5 retail devices do...
