Dynamic Range Window Violations and Frequent Timeouts

I am having frequent internet outages in my whole house, Arris SB8200 modem logs below. Dynamic Range Window violations seem to be the primary culprit, with additional time out errors and events. Issue is most apparent in constant connection service like gaming, but is also obvious when streaming or browsing if the outage occurs when something is buffering or loading.

First, I tried a new modem and that had zero effect on the issue. Back to the Arris SB8200 and I could at least remain connected.

Then, I had an Xfinity service technician come out to inspect the lines through the house and to the street and the only thing resolved from that visit was a MoCA filter added to my house's line. This resolved my issue for a few days but now it has come back worse than ever. What used to be a short 2-3 minute drop in connection has become a complete failure and causes my modem to reset itself.

I have read through several similar issues on this forum and it seems like I need a watcher put on my service to accurately detect the power level issues, or something needs to change upstream because I'm out of things to fix/swap here.

The signal status values at that snapshot in time were OK but the error log entries indicate that something is going on. Perhaps there is intermittent spurious noise ingress into the line(s) /  an upstream channel / return path impairment somewhere.

There are other signal stat values that can't be read by the modem. They are the "Upstream Rx Power" (Upstream Receive Power Level), the "Upstream SNR Ch." (Upstream Signal To Noise Ratio), and the "Upstream ICFR" (In Channel Frequency Response). These are as equally important in diagnosing connectivity issues as are the modem's stats.


I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) who are available to these boards. They will be able to poll the CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) to check for any real-time degradation and / or error reports, see your node / cable plant, and modem health, and see whether or not everything is in the green zone. They can also see a history plot for the modem and those upstream receive signal stats.

Thank you very much! In the interim I also spoke with an agent on the phone and they put in a work order for me as well as provided me with an Xfinity gateway to test with. Should I hold off on replacing my current modem until the Digital Care Team jumps in?

Update: I spoke with a live agent via the phone and they put a work order in. They also granted me a 30-day rental of an Xfinity gateway free of charge. I have replaced my Arris SB8200 with the Xfinity gateway and the issue continues.

This new gateway also does not provide me with any helpful log messages.

Update: I have had the Xfinity gateway connected and properly activated for a few hours. Just had another complete outage. System Log messages are not as helpful as my Arris SurfBoard, but are pasted below:
