Does the XB8-T gateway support IEEE 1905.1 Protocol

I could never get my Deco mesh network, which requires this protocol, to work properly.

Good afternoon @jarome. Are you getting an error message when trying to connect your network?

The Deco mesh device will not connect to the Internet via the Xfi Gateway in either bridge or router mode.

jarome, Hi there! Thanks for confirming this for us and for reaching out. I can certainly understand the concern with wanting to know if your Deco mesh device will work with our XB8 modem. We can help. While we don't have an official recommended list, some systems can be compatible. Were you able to use the Deco mesh device on one of our older models? At Comcast, we offer our WiFi Boost pods like in this link here. Our WiFi Boost Pods are easy-to-install devices that can be paired with the XB8 Gateway to help extend the range of the WiFi coverage in the home, but are not intended to provide the maximum speed of the internet speed tier throughout the home.

The problem is that support for this protocol is needed for Ethernet backhaul, which is a Deco requirement. This question should be easily answerable with access to the XB8 full specs.

jarome, In researching this further, I confirmed that Deco mesh networks were working correctly on our XB6 modems when the Deco device was set up as a WiFi router. Is your XB8 set up as a WiFi router and still not working properly? Here are some steps to try as I recently read reviews on Deco devices that the mandatory DHCP server in mesh mode conflicts with the mandatory DHCP in the Xfinity modem. Plug your primary Deco into the LAN side of your XB8 which should give it an IP. It’s likely worth using an Ethernet cable to confirm connectivity just for the sake of troubleshooting ease, starting with testing the modem, then down from there. Once good, put your Deco device into the DMZ/pass-through mode on your modem (assuming it has the functionality) and assign it an IP from the DHCP range. It should be all good from there. Please let me know if this helps.

The XB8 is based on the Broadcom BCM3390 DOCSIS 3.1 chipset..  According to this wikipedia article, that chipset is not listed as supporting that protocol (see subheading Chipsets). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1905

Finally an answer. Why is it so hard to get any real information from Comcast? XB8 users had best NOT use Deco mesh systems.

Netgear mesh systems use a proprietary protocol and do not need support of IEEE 1905.1. Try the Netrear Orbi 770 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D4JB6QJD
