Do I need to return an old modem marked "Retail Unit, Customer Owned"?

I was sent a new modem by Xfinity and told that I would need to return the old one.  However, the Returns page does not list my old model.  Looking more closely, I see it is a Xfinity modem, but is labeled "Retail Unit, Customer Owned."  Do I need to return it or not?

The best thing to do is return the Comcast/Xfinity equipment. Their equipment is always rented, not owned, so if you don’t return it, you’ll eventually get charged. If you’re unsure about the modem you have, visit the nearest Xfinity store they can check it for you and help with the return.

user_t8f5t4 Our equipment does need returned, but I would be happy to confirm the one inactive on your account is ours.

Can you send us a direct message with your full name, name of account holder (if different), and service address please?

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon (speech bubble)

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it
