DNS settings

I know this has been asked before, but could I get a clear answer to my issue?

I know Xfinity doesn't allow changing of DNS server settings on their gateway modems.  My question is, if I put my modem in bridged mode, and use my own router, and change the settings to use cloudflare DNS servers, does the gateway still capture my DNS requests through Xfinity DNS servers anyways?

Is the only way to avoid this is to go with my own modem and router setup?

Thank you

Yes, that is the only route.  I have used my own hardware for years, and I have complete control over my home network.  I also do not have the hidden networks and the hotspot [Edited: "Language"] that xfinity forces on those that use their hardware.  You will not regret going with your own hardware.

Hello @user_b84e83. Thanks for posting to the Xfinity Community Forum to get help. Based on the information I located, the gateway will still capture DNS requests from our servers.

Check this out   it's called DNS over HTTPS or DOH for short.

It may be the solution to your issue.

There are countless articles on "DOH"

@user_098104 It still won't matter.  Set the client to whatever you want.  The request is hijacked by the Xfinity gateways.  Why?  You are the product, and the data is fodder to sell to 3rd parties.

Want to avoid it?  Use a VPN that redirects all routes to their network, or use 3rd party gear where you can change the DNS settings.
