DNS settings in Admin login

I need to understand why the ability to change DNS settings, for someone who is an IT professional, has been turned off. Got new modem because previous modem (only lasted a year) all the sudden had port issues. Go to direct my DNS to my DNS provider and find out that the service has been locked down, and we can no longer access or change DNS settings

How do we get this unlocked, as I dont want to use 75.75.75.75 as my DNS

Hello @user_7gh44g! Thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity forums!

I certainly understand the importance of having the flexibility to utilize your preferred DNS servers. Currently, DNS settings are locked on our gateways to support integrated network features, such as Advanced Security, which functions by monitoring DNS queries for potential threats.

To work around this limitation, you have two primary options:

  • Enable Bridge Mode: You can place your gateway into Bridge Mode and connect a personal third-party router. This allows you to manage DNS and all other networking preferences directly through your own hardware.

  • Manual Device Configuration: You can manually assign DNS addresses on your individual devices (PCs, tablets, or smartphones). These local settings will override the default DNS provided by the gateway.

No. Those two functions are not interoperable / interchangeable.

Could you provide me the official formalized statement from Xfinity saying what they use my DNS service usage data and who all have access to it.

I can't, as I'm not an employee, sorry. Perhaps an official employee can. Good luck with that !....

Ok, sorry I didn't knew. In that case we both know what's going on
