DHCP Lease Renewal too short

Hi all,

I frequently broadcast livestreams and/or participate in long video calls, and I deal with intermittent disconnects on regular short intervals (30 minutes, usually). After extensive troubleshooting, I have isolated the issue to unusually short DHCP lease renewals on Xfinity's end.

I would like to get a longer DHCP lease from Xfinity (maybe 24 hours?) so that these micro-disconnects don't seem to happen as often.

Does anyone know the right question / people to ask to get Xfinity to do this for me? All customer service scripts are just about troubleshooting my own equipment which is obviously not causing this issue. I have substituted in different modems and routers and even plugged a computer directly into a modem just to be sure, and, it has nothing to do with what equipment I have plugged in. The client does not control when DHCP WAN renewals happen, obviously.

Hello, @cpicone92 I did some digging for you and found this information on extending the DHCP lease:

To extend your DHCP lease, you typically need to manually release and renew your IP address. This can be done by following these steps:

For Windows 10/11:

  1. Open the Run box (Windows + R).
  2. Type CMD and press Enter.
  3. In Command Prompt, type ipconfig/release and press Enter.
  4. Then type ipconfig/renew and press Enter.
  5. Type Exit to close the window.

For Mac OS X:

  1. Close any open internet apps.
  2. Go to System Settings > Network.
  3. Select your connection type and click Details.
  4. Go to TCP/IP and click Renew DHCP Lease.

This process helps refresh your IP address and extend the lease.
